Prof. M.S.Krupashankara, has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, from University of Mysore (1990) and Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Maryland, Collegepark, USA (1996). He has a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering in the area of Additive Manufacturing from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Karnataka.
He started his career as process planning engineering at BOSCH plant in Bangalore in 1991, and later served as design engineer at Adell Plastics, Baltimore, USA. He then joined Materials Modification Inc., USA as senior design engineer, where he worked on several US governments funded research and development projects by NSF, DOE, DRDO, and NASA. These research and development projects resulted in the being awarded seven US patents in the field of microwave synthesis of nanopowders and plasma pressure compaction of nanopowders. He has received two R&D 100 awards for developing products from concept to commercialization.
He served as consultant to National Aerospace Lab (NAL), Bangalore in the design and development of microwave curing system polymer composites, which is now being scale up for commercial production. He was a technical consultant in developing import substitute microwave vulcanization systems to three leading multinational companies involved in the production of rubber profiles for automobiles. He was instrumental in establishing Enerzi Microwave Systems P. Ltd., Belgaum, which is one of the India’s leading manufacturer of industrial microwave systems for research and industrial applications.
He served R.V.College of Engineering, Bangalore from 2005 to 2018 as Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He was Dean of Post Graduate Program from 2015-2018. He completed more than Rs.7 corers of funded projects funded by DST, DRDO, AICTE in diverse areas of thin films coatings for solar thermal applications, sintering of magnetic materials for naval applications, microwave synthesis of nanomaterials, additive manufacturing of propeller blades for underwater vehicles, laser assisted sintering of metals and polymer composites.
He is now the Principal of Goa College of Engineering, Goa.
